Can You Recognize These 4 Common Anesthesia- Associated Arrhythmias?

Artboard 1-Mar-25-2022-02-03-40-75-AM

There are a number of arrhythmias that can occur in small animal patients, and you may or may not feel comfortable diagnosing all of these arrhythmias on the spot. Fortunately, out in “the real world” of veterinary practice, it’s not uncommon to use a computer program that aids in ECG interpretation and/or a telemedicine service that can examine your ECGs for you. Alternatively, you may refer patients with a suspected arrhythmia to a veterinary cardiologist for a thorough cardiac workup.

When you have a pet under anesthesia, however, you must be able to diagnose and treat arrhythmias quickly. In order to make that easier, it’s helpful to focus on the four arrhythmias that you’re most likely to see in an anesthetized pet.
